またまた、私 ジェイクです。
冬休みに、私とオルガは
奈良、京都へ２泊３日の旅を
しました。
日本の美しい文化を堪能してきました！
私たちの旅の様子を書きましたので
どうぞ、楽しんでね。
On the second week of vacation, me and my sister had a trip to Kyoto and on the way home, we made a side trip to Nara too.
We stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights and it was absolutely amazing!
I enjoyed Kyoto and it made me see and appreciate the beauty of the Japanese culture more.
Kyoto Day 1
We went there on Christmas day and we arrived kind of late in the afternoon already.
This is because we woke up late that morning since we kept up with the Filipino tradition of staying up late on Christmas eve to celebrate and eat what we call noche buena or midnight Christmas meal while having video call with our family back home.
We tried to go to Nijo Castle but sadly, we weren’t able to because last entrance was a 4:00pm and we arrived at around 3:55.
But I was still able to take a picture of its entrance. So on our day 1, we just went around the city, went to Nishiki market took a rest at our hotel and bought wine to celebrate Christmas.
Kyoto Day 2
On our second day, we rented bikes to go around Kyoto!
I was so excited because it was my first time to ride a bike around a city.
It was 6 degrees cold that day but I didn’t feel the cold that much, mostly because I was sweating from all the biking.
It was really fun!
And at least, I got to have an exercise on my vacation haha.
First stop: Kinkaku-ji or the Golden Pavilion.
From the bike rental store, it took us 50 minutes to get to our first stop.
Imagine all the calories we burned from biking that far! Haha.
It was an amazing sight!
We took pictures and walked around the place.
There were many foreigners too.
After going around biking for half a day, we decided to return the bikes and take the train to our second stop: Fushimi Inari.
It was so amazing!
To think that before, I could just see these places in pictures but now I’m already here before them!
I’m really interested at the stories behind these places. Sadly, there wasn’t much information available for foreigners or we weren’t just able to inquire about it. But luckily, there’s always the internet to provide such information.
It was a tiring day for me and my sister.
But I can say it was all worth it! There were still many places we weren’t able to go to but it’s okay, there’s always next time.
I promise that I’ll go back to Kyoto someday!
I’m quite shocked and impressed that many people working in Kyoto can communicate in English well and almost all instructions you can see on machines, roads, etc. has English translations. Kyoto is really a foreigner-friendly city.
I can say that more tourists or foreigners then increase the demand for its locals to learn and speak the common language, which is English.
Or it’s the other way around; you can increase your city’s popularity to tourists and foreigners if your community is seen as a foreigner-friendly city like Kyoto and one way is by learning and speaking English! 😀
As much as I’d like to continue, it’s getting quite a long read so I’ll just stop here but don’t worry, I’ll tell you all about our third day in Kyoto and our side trip to Nara on my next blog entry. Stay tuned!
